About Me – DJ Tutor in Macclesfield
Hi, I’m Ben, a DJ tutor based in Macclesfield, and I’ve been passionate about music for as long as I can remember.
Long before I ever stood behind a pair of DJ decks, I was the kid making mixtapes for friends and recording songs from the radio, trying to stop the cassette at exactly the right moment before the presenter spoke over the intro. Looking back, it was my first introduction to track selection, timing and the attention to detail that every good DJ develops.
My DJ journey officially began in 2002, and in a rather unconventional way. My very first gig wasn’t in my bedroom or at a small house party—it was in front of a packed dancefloor. I got the opportunity because I had the music collection, and although I wouldn’t recommend that route to everyone, it taught me an important lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career: confidence comes from doing..

You can watch tutorials, read articles and practise transitions for hours, but nothing teaches you faster than playing music for real people. That’s where you learn to read a crowd, recover from mistakes and trust your instincts.
Over 20 Years Behind the Decks
Since that first gig, I’ve spent more than two decades DJing at bars, clubs, weddings, private parties and festivals across Cheshire and beyond. Every event has been different, and every crowd has taught me something new.
My background has always been in open-format DJing, mixing everything from house and disco to R&B, hip-hop, chart music, dance classics and party anthems. I love the challenge of reading a room and choosing the perfect track for the moment, because great DJing is about far more than simply beatmatching.
Experience Beyond the DJ Booth
DJing has also opened the door to the wider music industry.
I spent time working in a DJ equipment store, helping customers choose their first CDJs and mixers while demonstrating equipment and offering practical advice. Later, I spent almost nine years working for one of the world’s largest online DJ schools, supporting thousands of DJs around the globe.
During that time I helped beginners set up their equipment, troubleshoot software, prepare music libraries and develop their mixing skills. I also worked behind the scenes creating course artwork, marketing materials and educational content for internationally recognised DJs.
Working with so many students taught me one important thing: everyone learns differently.
Why I Started Teaching DJ Lessons
Today, I combine everything I’ve learned into friendly, relaxed one-to-one DJ lessons in Macclesfield and online DJ lessons for students across the UK.
Whether you’ve just bought your first DJ controller, want to understand Rekordbox or Serato, improve your mixing, or simply build the confidence to play your first party, every lesson is tailored to you. There are no rigid lesson plans or unnecessary jargon—just practical, hands-on tuition designed around your goals and experience.
My aim isn’t just to teach you how to mix songs. It’s to help you enjoy DJing, understand music, and develop the confidence to perform in front of others whenever you’re ready.
